It’s Finally Fall in Texas!

Nearly the middle of October and Dallas is finally experiencing a weather phenomenon known as rain. The State Fair of Texas is underway – an old tradition in Dallas. It’s three weeks of rides, exhibits, games of chance where we spend $25 to try and win a $5 toy, and food! Food that is by no stretch of the imagination good for you…but I remember it being oh, so good! The most famous cuisine item is a Fletcher’s Corned Dog. In Texas, however, they are known as “corny dog.” A hot dog dipped in a sweet corn batter and deep fried. Everything is deep fried. Last year, they had fried butter!!

I received some really fantastic cards in September – and I sent some that I thought were pretty special, too! At the end of each month, I get a statement that shows how many cards I sent and received. The statement will say, “Your mailbox was happy 9 times this month.” Well, tell that to my mailman! They don’t count the 100+ that come from the round robins, so my mailbox is quite happy every day.

If you’re on a message board, then you know the quirks and tendencies of your fellow board members. When you host a group that is sending and receiving something – postcards, say – then you get a whole new look into someone’s thinking…sometime too good a glimpse. There are two main things I love to check out on a forum member’s profile – their wishlist (likes and dislikes) and their “Mood for the Day.”

I thought I’d share a few of the amusing or startling things I find. A lot of these are on my very, very witty friends’ posts. I’m not making fun of them. I’m just giving you a idea of what makes me chuckle (my comments in italics):

“If you happen to have Kiroileva Siili, Totoro or Чебурашка or Крокодил Гена cards, I am highly interested for a trade.”
~No problem…as soon as I learn Cyrillic languages!

“wishlist? hmmm…
black and white, people, castles…
funny and weird…

Besides that: no biography.
Bears have bearographies.
🙂
Ansonsten: Wenn de Mittwoch überlebs, iss Donnerstach…”
~I just have to learn German…

“Black & white if possible, written and in an envelope please as the machines make a mess, unless it costs u more! I prefer not to receive ad cards/movie stars/sugar-cute thanks. And no bull…lol.
My own professionally printed postcards sometimes available (subject to chaos)”
~It truly annoys me when cards are subject to chaos.

“I have a weird sense of humour, a weird taste in men, a fondness for weird people, and a huge collection of weird cards…..”
~It’s why the writer and I get along so well…it’s the normal people who scare me!

“Don’t send me, if possible:
– Too bright colours (yellow, orange, light green etc) Pink is fine 😉
– Gold colour jewellery
– Diddl or Disney
– Anything with wheat, rye or barley (allergy)”
~Postcards of wheat can trigger an allergy? Wow! Who knew?

“I plan to line the doors of my house with all the postcards I’ll receive… and I have many doors in the house!!!”
~Note to Michelle – do not hire this person for interior decorating.

And while erotic cards are often requested, check out #3 on the list.
I’d like to receive cards about:
gay related or hot or handsome guys or actors
an unused condom
guideposts
Sports(Fencing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, track and field, judo or any snow sports)(Male ones please)
Nouvelles Images(unwritten in an envelope please)
AC Milan
Dr.House
Michael Delacriox
Inkognito
Gotochi
Flags(except USA,FINLAND,RUSSIA,ESTONIA, AUSTRALIA,SPAIN,GERMANY and UK)
Icebergs(NO MULTIVIEWS!!)
R.E.M, the Beatles,Coldplay, Nirvana, Oasis,Muse,Sex Pistols or any other male bands.
Anything related to Will&Grace, the Horse Whisperer and the Big Blue.
Big waves
Men’s shoes
Couple kissing
Heart
Absolut Vodka
WWF
台湾番薯片
Effel Tower in black&white
~Surely the “Will & Grace” part can’t surprise you? What’s his problem with the US, Finland, etc.?

And finally, this is one of my favorite autobiographies on the official Postcrossing.com site – more than we should know, I think.
“I am 60 year old, divorced female, with 2 grown boys. I live with my oldest and his wife and we all get along very well.
I lived in Arizona in the desert and it gets real hot there in the summer, up to 135F. So hot they have a fry an egg on the sidewalk contest every year, in a little town called Oatman. It is an old mining town and the descendants of the Burros that the miners used still roam the street today. They have mock gunfights and a mock robbing of a bank. Its all in fun and they put on quit a show. In January we are moving to Kentucky. It will be nice to get away from the heat, but I will miss all my friends here.
When we got to Ky. we had to stay in a motel for a week. The truck with all our stuff was snowed-in. We finally made it and all is good. Quite a climate change, but I love it.
I worked at Walmart at the customer service desk. I was with Walmart for 11 years before I retired. If you work at Walmart or a Sam’s club let me know.
I would love to get postcards of anything you want me to see. I would like to have you write something in your language and translate it for me.
I love to collect dragons and I love animals. We have 3 dogs and 2 Siamese cats as well as 2 ferrets and a bunnie.
I also sell Watkins products so if your interested let me know and I will tell you how to order. Watkins are wonderful products. They are made from all natural products and are totally green. Safe for kids, pets, and the environment.
~While you’re sending me a postcard, order my products!

Moods (they speak for themselves):Mood: “Odd how things change and you don’t really know when or why.” -Anonymous
I’ll tell you a secret – this is a quote from a note I wrote to the person who used it as her mood.

Mood:

Mood: I used to be indecisive but now I am not quite sure.”

Mood: … and Along Comes Mary in the ancient and honorable dorian mode

And finally, there is the just random note on a profile that makes you laugh out loud…
“Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.”

I adore these people!!

Hope you at least got at least one chuckle along the way,
Michelle
